The validity of the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Verbal and Math scores as predictors of college freshmen's grade point average was examined on a sample of college freshmen and then cross-validated on a separate sample of freshmen law and justice students. Two statistical approaches for adjusting grades were tested on data obtained from four American law schools (642 students). Neither item response theory nor the general linear model yielded consistent improvements in the predictive validity of Law School Admission Test scores and undergraduate grades for three schools.
