Seven software programs for spelling instruction are reviewed, and the author notes that such programs use creative ways to reduce the drudgery of rote memorization. Programs also incorporate graphics, recordkeeping, initial sound emphasis, rules of syllabication, sight work instruction, and speech synthesizers. (CL)
