Yang, Chunliang; Chew, Siew-Jong; Sun, Bukuan; Shanks, David R. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 2019
Interim testing of studied information, compared with restudying or no treatment, facilitates subsequent learning and retention of new information--"the forward testing effect." Previous research exploring this effect has shown that interim testing of studied information from a given domain enhances subsequent learning and retention of…

Uehling, Barbara S.; Underwood, Benton J. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Findings are most consistent with a mediation interpretation of transfer. (Authors)

Schwenn, Elizabeth A.; Davidson, Robert E. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1970
The relative effectiveness of sentence and conjunction contexts in reducing negative transfer and facilitating learning is empirically investigated. (Author)

Marsh, George; Desberg, Peter – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1978
Two experiments investigated the effects of pictures as first-sound or action mnemonics for learning letter-sound pairs by prereading kindergarten children. In both experiments, the mnemonics had a substantial effect during training, but this effect disappeared on a transfer test with the mnemonics removed. (Author/CP)

Long, K. Kilby – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1971
The effect of serving as an experimenter in a paired-associate learning procedure on subsequent learning is investigated. (DG)

Baumeister, Alfred A.; Maisto, Albert A. – Developmental Psychology, 1974
Presents a study of paired-associative learning involving a total of 80 preschool and second grade children. Four familiarization categories of pretraining were utilized; results are discussed in terms of the effects of pretraining conditions and age on paired-associative learning and their consistency with some developmental hypotheses and phase…

Underwood, Benton J.; Lund, Arnold M. – 1980
Six experiments were intended to characterize more completely a phenomenon found when lists were first learned in isolation and then placed together for simultaneous learning. The subjects learned three lists, each list clearly distinguishable from the other. One of the lists was recalled, another was tested for frequency information, and the…

Rychlak, Joseph F. – 1971
This research contrasts the learning effects of an affective dimension of meaningfulness with the word-quality of consonant-vowel-consonant trigrams. Subject rated trigrams for both "association value"--having word-quality versus lacking word-quality--and "reinforcement value"--liking versus disliking the trigram regardless of word quality. Paired…
