Méndez Hinojosa, Luz Marina; Segura Arévalo, María Leticia – European Journal of Educational Research, 2022
In higher education, it is essential that students apply what they have learned to solve problems in their community. Meaningful learning is the main means to increase the accumulation of knowledge and achieve the transfer of learning, which is why the present study aimed to: design and evaluate the psychometric properties of a scale that measures…

Xu, Jianzhong; Fan, Xitao; Du, Jianxia – Psychology in the Schools, 2015
This study presents a psychometric evaluation of the Homework Management Scale (HMS) for mathematics, consisting of five subscales for measuring homework management strategies. Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted with a sample of middle school students (N = 796). Results indicated that the factor structure of the Chinese version of the HMS…

Justicia, Fernando; Pichardo, M. Carmen; Cano, Francisco; Berben, A. B. G.; De la Fuente, Jesus – European Journal of Psychology of Education, 2008
The underlying structure of the Revised Two Factor version of the Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F), a 20-item instrument for the evaluation of students' approaches to learning (SAL), was examined at item level using two independent groups of undergraduate students enrolled in the first (n = 314) and last (n = 522) years of their studies. The…

Melancon, Janet G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2002
Studied the reliability, structure, and criterion-related validity of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI; C. Weinstein, 1987) using data from 502 university students. Results suggest that the LASSI may not measure the postulated 10 scales typically used to report results. (SLD)

Stevens, Tara; Tallent-Runnels, Mary K. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2004
The purpose of this study was to investigate the latent structure of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory-High School (LASSI-HS) through confirmatory factor analysis and factorial invariance models. A simple modification of the three-factor structure was considered. Using a larger sample, cross-validation was completed and the equality of…

Olivarez, Arturo, Jr.; Tallent-Runnels, Mary K. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1994
The latent composition of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory for High School (LASSI-HS) was studied through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of results from 367 ninth-grade students. Evidence supports a three-factor model. Interrelationships among the constructs are examined, and use of the instrument is discussed. (SLD)

Gordon, Wayne I. – 1994
Study strategies are the activities that an individual uses to facilitate learning. Although no consistent findings exist to show the factors that comprise the study-strategy concept, a three-factor conceptualization (cognitive, affective, and behavioral) is often suggested. These factors were studied with 128 undergraduates of high and low…

Andreou, Eleni; Vlachos, Filippos; Andreou, Georgia – Educational Research, 2006
Background: There is considerable interest in differences in students' approaches to learning, particularly in the difference between "deep" approaches (characterized by contextualization, critical review and recognition of the value of the content) and "surface" approaches (characterized by rote learning for functional…

Vermunt, Jan D. H. M. – 1987
Data from 211 adult students (ages 20 to 75) at the Open University, The Netherlands, were used to construct and test an instrument to measure learning styles and regulation processes. Test development was guided by a three-tiered model of self-regulation encompassing: (1) cognitive learning processes (deep, surface, elaborative); (2) regulation…

Moreno, Virginia; Di Vesta, Francis J. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1991
Use of the Cognitive Skills Inventory (CSI) in cross-cultural studies was investigated by comparing responses of 348 English-speaking, 142 bilingual Puerto Rican, and 109 monolingual Spanish college students. Analyses illustrate a stable and reliable factor structure across cultures for the CSI and its Spanish translation. (SLD)
