This questionnaire was issue to 12 western libraries to provide data for in-depth case studies of costs of technical processing and interlibrary loan. An additional 88 libraries received a somewhat shorter questionnaire as part of the same survey, which was designed to determine representative costs of library services without network services, and to establish a basis for the prediction of future costs in library services with network support. Libraries surveyed included academic, regional, and public. The questionnaire includes sections covering: (1) library structure; (2) holdings; (3) staff; (4) processing and reference; (5) equipment, communications, and supplies; (6) building facilities; (7) current budget; (8) regional libraries, resource centers, and centralized processing agents; and (9) acquisitions, cataloging, and interlibrary loans.
