Gibson, Charles D. – CEFP Journal, 1973
Outlines the proposed program for CEFP certification of luminaires for use in educational facilities. If adopted, it may lead to not only better and more effective use of light but also to an improvement in the ratio of light to power input. (Author)

Hughes, Philip C. – CEFP Journal, 1981
Reviews the established effects of light on the human organism and concludes that sunlight simulating environmental lighting in schools will result in greater student and teacher comfort, health, and increased performance and/or working capacity. (Author/MLF)

Crouch, C. L. – CEFP Journal, 1973
Discusses research undertaken to determine recommended levels of lighting for effective seeing. Factors considered include age, veiling reflections, brightness differences, glare, and pleasantness. Also points out some common lighting practices that are wasteful and inefficient and suggests alternatives. (DN)

Hathaway, Warren E. – CEFP Journal, 1983
Summarizes research findings about the lighting and colors used in classrooms--specifically, students' reactions to color; windowless rooms; and natural, incandescent, and fluorescent lighting. (MLF)

Sydoriak, Diane – CEFP Journal, 1984
Describes a research project that will measure whether student achievement, blood pressure, height, and weight gain are influenced by the choice of color and/or the source of artificial light in the classroom. Four third-grade classrooms will be the treatment groups involving two colors and three different artificial light sources. (MLF)

Chick, Walter S. – CEFP Journal, 1987
A voluntary program in Ontario encourages the private sector to reduce its energy consumption in commercial buildings by experimenting with innovative building operation techniques. Charts and tables illustrate the outstanding results achieved by program participants. Yearly energy management forums are convened in Toronto and Ottawa. (MLF)

Frohreich, Lloyd E. – CEFP Journal, 1986
Too few teachers and administrators know the effects that classroom environment can have on learning. A 20-item diagnostic test used at inservice meetings can tell individuals and groups how familiar they are with environmental factors. The test is nonthreatening since participants are not required to reveal the results. (MLF)

Schlaebitz, William D. – CEFP Journal, 1984
A heat pump life-cycle cost analysis is used to explain the technique. Items suggested for the life-cycle analysis approach include lighting, longer-life batteries, site maintenance, and retaining experts to inspect specific building components. (MLF)

Rankin, John – CEFP Journal, 1987
Programs to correct energy loss problems in Ontario school buildings were followed by resource documents used to integrate energy concepts into the curriculum. Physical plant changes, operational changes, and control policy changes contributed to an approximate 20 percent reduction in school energy use. (MLF)
