A study of volunteerism in an eight-town area of New Hampshire secured responses from 112 of a sample of 312 volunteers in 1978. These volunteers were predominantly male, middle aged, and married. They served either for personal prestige or community service motives. A cumulative savings of $46,000 resulted from their efforts. (SK)
