Two studies examined the hypothesis that sexually coercive behavior is part of a larger constellation of non-sexual deviant behaviors. Lawson, Ronald; Drebing, Charles; Berg, Gary; Vincellette, Aime; Penk, Walter – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1998
A study of 1,207 male veterans admitted to a substance-abuse program found a history of sexual abuse was related to spiritual injury and low stability of spiritual behaviors, but not to overall rate of current religious behavior. Abuse was related to increased frequency of prayer and of spiritual experience. (Author/CR)

Hepburn, James M. – Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, 1994
Because of the influence of feminism, most of the treatment models for victims of child sexual abuse are aimed at meeting the needs of women. The distinctions between male and female ways of resolving issues are used to discuss the challenges faced by clinicians working with male victims. (JPS)

Singer, Mark I.; And Others – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1992

Lakey, Joyce F. – Adolescence, 1994
Outlines characteristics of sex offenders, including family and school histories, sexual attitudes, social skills and relationships, delinquent behaviors, psychiatric diagnoses, and cognitive distortions based on mythical beliefs. Semonsky, Michael R.; Rosenfeld, Lawrence B. – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1994
Compares the perceptions of 387 male and female undergraduates of a scene involving a minor sexual violation in which 1 participant denies a kiss and the other kisses regardless. Compared entrance and exit scores for 16 patients completing outpatient treatment for sex offenders. Statistically significant outcome measures and clinical improvements were obtained. Carballo-Dieguez, Alex; Dolezal, Curtis – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1995
This study with 182 homosexually active adult men of Puerto Rican ancestry in New York City found that men who had been sexually abused by an older sexual partner before the age of 13 were significantly more likely to engage in high-risk sexual behavior without protection than other homosexually active men. (Author/DB)

Cue, Kelly L.; And Others – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1996
Investigated how 165 female college students appraised their sexual assault risk in hypothetical dating situations, varying male partner characteristics and the consumption of alcohol. Findings suggest that women are partially accurate in making sexual-assault risk appraisals, and thus may benefit from rape prevention education that specifically…

Beitchman, Joseph H.; And Others – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1992
Evidence suggests that sexual abuse has serious long-term effects; but specific effects, independent of force, threatened force, or family variables such as parental psychopathology, are not yet clarified. Effects among adults in terms of their relationship to sexual dysfunction, depression, anxiety, fear, multiple or borderline personality…

Cook, Sarah L. – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1995
Examines the acceptance of, and expectations of, sexual aggression in common dating situations for 546 college students who completed a measure of rape acceptance beliefs.
