Tan, Phei Ling; Lim, Chap Sam; Kee, Kor Liew – Malaysian Journal of Learning and Instruction, 2017
Purpose: Knowledge state specifies pupils' mastery level and informs about their strength and weaknesses in the tested domain. This study attempted to diagnose primary pupils' learning the concept of "after" through their knowledge states by using Cognitive Diagnostic Assessment (CDA). Methodology: This study employed a survey research…

Sinaga, Parlindungan; Feranie, Shelly – International Journal of Instruction, 2017
The research aims to identify the impacts of embedding non-traditional writing tasks within the course of modern physics conducted to the students of Physics Education and Physics Study Programs. It employed a quasi-experimental method with the pretest-posttest control group design. The used instruments were tests on conceptual mastery, tests on…

Heng, Lee Ling; Surif, Johari; Seng, Cher Hau – International Journal of Science Education, 2015
The practices of argumentation have recently been upheld as an important need to develop students' understanding of scientific concepts. However, the present education system in Malaysia is still largely examination-based and teacher-oriented. Thus, this study aims to examine the mastery level of scientific argumentation and its scheme among…

Schonfeld, David J.; Adams, Ryan E.; Fredstrom, Bridget K.; Weissberg, Roger P.; Gilman, Richard; Voyce, Charlene; Tomlin, Ricarda; Speese-Linehan, Dee – School Psychology Quarterly, 2015
This study evaluated the results of a social and emotional learning (SEL) program on academic achievement among students attending a large, urban, high-risk school district. Using a cluster-randomized design, 24 elementary schools were assigned to receive either the intervention curriculum ("Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies", or…

Arnold, Holly Weber – ProQuest LLC, 2013
This study examines the relationship between delivery models (the class size reduction model and the sheltered instruction model) and language development levels on the grade-level reading development of sixth-grade English learners (ELs) attending public middle schools in metro Atlanta, Georgia. The instrument used to measure grade-level mastery…

Kenyon, Peggy L. – ProQuest LLC, 2012
The effect of content interactivity on performance outcomes and satisfaction has been studied by researchers who compared the results of Web-based and computer-based learning to classroom learning. Few scholars have compared the effects of the same content produced at different levels (low and high) of interactivity and the resulting effects. The…

Gjelaj Merturi, Elizabeth – ProQuest LLC, 2010
The purpose of this mixed quantitative and qualitative study was to examine whether a relationship exists between the perceptions of principal-based leadership practices and 5th grade reading achievement. Standardized assessment measures used were the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale (PIMRS) and the 5th grade Connecticut Mastery…

Finkelman, Matthew David – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2010
In sequential mastery testing (SMT), assessment via computer is used to classify examinees into one of two mutually exclusive categories. Unlike paper-and-pencil tests, SMT has the capability to use variable-length stopping rules. One approach to shortening variable-length tests is stochastic curtailment, which halts examination if the probability…

Kummerow, Andreas; Miller, Marcia; Reed, Rhonda – American Journal of Distance Education, 2012
A comparison of student learning outcomes between distance education and campus-based nursing students in a mental health course working toward registered nurse (RN) licensure in a baccalaureate (BS) degree program is presented. Learning outcomes were evaluated using results from a commercially developed content mastery test taken by students who…

Bartroff, Jay; Finkelman, Matthew; Lai, Tze Leung – Psychometrika, 2008
After a brief review of recent advances in sequential analysis involving sequential generalized likelihood ratio tests, we discuss their use in psychometric testing and extend the asymptotic optimality theory of these sequential tests to the case of sequentially generated experiments, of particular interest in computerized adaptive testing. We…

Subkoviak, Michael J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1988
Current methods for obtaining reliability indices for mastery tests can be laborious. This paper offers practitioners tables from which agreement and kappa coefficients can be read directly and provides criterion for acceptable values of agreement and kappa coefficients. (TJH)

Huynh, Huynh – Psychometrika, 1994
A new direct and short proof is offered for the monotone likelihood ratio for the sum of independent Bernoulli random variables through use of an inequality by Marcus and Lopes (1957) on elementary symmetric functions. (SLD)

Wilcox, Rand R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The classical estimate of a binomial probability function is to estimate its mean in the usual manner and to substitute the results in the appropriate expression. Two alternative estimation procedures are described and examined. Emphasis is given to the single administration estimate of the mastery test reliability. (Author/CTM)

Vijn, Pieter; Molenaar, Ivo W. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1981
In the case of dichotomous decisions, the total set of all assumptions/specifications for which the decision would have been the same is the robustness region. Inspection of this (data-dependent) region is a form of sensitivity analysis which may lead to improved decision making. (Author/BW)

Peng, Chao-Ying, J.; Subkoviak, Michael J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1980
Huynh (1976) suggested a method of approximating the reliability coefficient of a mastery test. The present study examines the accuracy of Huynh's approximation and also describes a computationally simpler approximation which appears to be generally more accurate than the former. (Author/RL)
