Wasik, John L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
A computer program to generate individualized objective test forms for use in a Student Faced Statistics (SPS) course is described. The program features disproportionate sampling from different item domains and enhanced character generation facility for test printing purposes. (Author)

Leinhardt, Gaea – Educational Researcher, 1990
Discusses the evaluation of a teacher's craft knowledge, or wisdom of teaching. Uses case studies from a national board certification assessment to illustrate the problems of test design and validation. (FMW)

Slavin, Robert E. – 1987
Literature on achievement effects of practical applications of group-based mastery learning in elementary and secondary schools over at least four weeks is examined, using the best-evidence synthesis review technique (a combination of meta-analysis and narrative reviews). There was essentially no evidence to support the effectiveness of…

Tillman, Murray H. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1974
Two testing packets, Formative Exercises T-TE-15A and T-TE-15B are reviewed. The Exercises are based on Bloom's concept of learning for mastery and are designed to acquaint teachers with the principles of mastery learning and provide examples of formative evaluation. One form of the exercises provides instant feedback to the examinee; the other,…

Davis, Charles E.; And Others – 1973
A coherent system of decision making is described that may be incorporated into an instructional sequence to provide a supplement to the experience-based judgment of the classroom teacher. The elements of this decision process incorporate prior information such as a teacher's past experience, experimental results such as a test score, and…

Marshall, J. Laird; Serlin, Ronald C. – 1979
Four recent indices emphasizing the interrelationships of score distribution shape, modality, mean, and variance were investigated to determine the reliability of mastery tests. Attention was focused on the values of the indices when the cutoff score was near to or far from the modes of distribution. Five types of score distributions were…

Berk, Ronald A. – 1980
Two approaches to criterion-referenced measurement are described and contrasted--domain-referenced testing and mastery testing. This paper is organized according to ten issues or stages in test construction: (1) content domain specification; (2) item construction; (3) item domain specification; (4) item analysis; (5) item selection; (6) parallel…

Hartke, Alan R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
Latent partition analysis is shown to be useful in determining the conceptual homogeneity of an item population. Such item populations are useful for mastery testing. Applications of latent partition analysis in assessing content validity are suggested. (Author/JKS)

Wilcox, Rand R. – Psychometrika, 1978
Several Bayesian approaches to the simultaneous estimation of the means of k binomial populations are discussed. This has particular applicability to criterion-referenced or mastery testing. (Author/JKS)

Simpson, Robert G.; Halpin, Gerald – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Forty adolescent subjects were administered the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests. The Passage Comprehension Test for each subject was rescored using three different ceiling criteria. The three scoring methods were found to be equivalent to the scoring method recommended in the Woodcock Manual in terms of internal consistency reliability. (Author/LMO)

Giraud, Gerald T.; Buckendahl, Chad; Lucas, Mike – 2003
This study examined the efficacy of teacher judgment in the process of setting mastery scores (cut scores) for fourth-grade mathematics in local school districts in Nebraska in terms of agreement between teacher classification of students and classification by the cut score obtained by this classification. The study also examined cut scores in…
