Yerizon; Putra, Atus Amadi; Subhan, Muhammad – International Electronic Journal of Mathematics Education, 2018
The mathematical ability of Indonesian students is still very low compared to other countries. One alternative to overcome the problem is by creating learning instructional that allows students to learn well. Most of learning instructional developed today do not accommodate the student learning styles especially in schools that have classified…

McLeod, Douglas B.; Adams, Verna M. – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1980
Students in three mathematics classes were assessed on two aptitudes, field independence and general reasoning, and randomly assigned for a discovery treatment. There was a significant interaction with general reasoning on the retention test. There were no interactions with field independence. (Author/MK)

Adams, Verna M.; McLeod, Douglas B. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
The hypothesis was tested that students with a field-independent cognitive style would learn most about numeration systems if they had minimum guidance and maximum opportunity for discovery through the use of manipulative materials. Data were gathered on 46 prospective elementary school teachers. The hypothesis was supported. (Author/MH)

Wilcock, Douglas – Mathematics Teacher, 1992
Describes a problem to challenge students as they come back from summer vacation. Working in small groups, students discover Pick's Theorem, the formula to calculate the area of a polygon constructed on a geoboard. A writing assignment evaluates the students' efforts. (MDH)

Kincaid, Charlene; And Others – Mathematics Teacher, 1994
Presents activities to create designs with different arrangements of square tiles, which gives students an opportunity to make conjectures about perimeter and to make convincing arguments to justify those conjectures. Includes worksheets. (MKR)

Hativa, Nira – Mathematics Education Research Journal, 1992
Examined the problem-solving strategies of above average students (n=42) in grades 2-4 on problems involving forgotten or new material while practicing arithmetic with a computer. Identified the different problem-solving strategies used, sorted them into categories, and illustrated them with examples from students' protocols. Made suggestions for…
