Chen, Shun; Liao, Faith; Murphy, David; Joseph, Stephen – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2022
The Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory was designed to assess the extent to which a person experiences unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding, and genuineness in a relationship. This study (N = 1,286) investigated measurement invariance between English, Chinese, and Spanish language versions of the inventory and partial scalar…

Cook, Ryan M.; Sackett, Corrine R.; Wind, Stefanie A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
Item response theory was used to study the psychometric properties of the Client Meaningful Experiences Scale (CMES). In a sample of 306 adult counseling clients, we examined the dimensional structure of the scale, item-fit, and person-fit statistics. Implications of these findings for counselors, counselors-in-training, and counseling researchers…

Moore, C. Missy; Crawford, Carey C.; Tertichny, Alissa – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
We examined dimensionality and temporal stability of the Interpersonal Stress Scale-Counselor (ISS-C) scores in a sample of professional counselors (n = 518). Confirmatory factor analyses provided support for a four-factor model previously identified through exploratory factor analysis and a bifactor model. Using a randomized test-retest, temporal…

Lauren N. Currie; Robinder P. Bedi; Anita M. Hubley – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Hope-Action Inventory (HAI) scores with a problematic substance use population (N = 783). The hierarchical seven-factor structure of the HAI fit the data well. Further, the HAI scores had satisfactory internal consistency reliability and good convergent evidence for validity.

Abdulkadir Haktanir; A. Stephen Lenz; M. Furkan Kurnaz – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
This study aims to identify the mean alpha coefficients of the Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS-5) and examine the moderator role of trauma type and study location. We included studies using the CPSS-5 and reporting a Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Our analysis of 27 studies (k = 31) revealed a mean alpha coefficient of 0.91 for the CPSS-5. Mean…

Alissa Tertichny; C. Missy Moore – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
Objective: The purpose of this study was to begin developing and validating an instrument to measure self-trust in adults. Method: Using a multi-phased and mixed methods approach to instrument development, the RSTI scores were tested across three samples reflecting national demographics of adults in the United States (n = 157, n = 692, n = 261).…

Michael T. Kalkbrenner; Michaela Bradley; Hannah Sun – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
We developed and validated scores on the Lifestyle Practices and Health Consciousness Inventory (LPHCI)-2: Brief Version, a short form for measuring global wellness (mental and physical health). Tests of internal structure (EFA, CFA, and higher-order CFA) as well as convergent validity supported the psychometric properties of LPHCI-2: Brief…

Abdulkadir Haktanir; M. Furkan Kurnaz; Zeynep Simsir Gökalp – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
Objective: Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS) is the most widely used instrument to assess self-control. The purpose of this reliability generalization meta-analysis was to examine the degree to which consistency reliability coefficients for scores on the BSCS generalize across age groups and languages. Method: We included studies using the BSCS and…

Lenz, A. Stephen; Ho, Chia-Min; Rocha, Lauren; Aras, Yahyahan – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
This study examined the degree that reliability coefficients for scores on the PTGI generalize across participant and study characteristics. Meta-analytic procedures resulted in observed and predicted mean alpha coefficients ranging from acceptable to excellent and appeared to be largely unrelated to the participant characteristics included in our…
