A study of interrater reliability among 17 faculty members assessing medical student case reports revealed marked disparities in the criteria raters felt to be important and an unacceptable spread in the ratings given. A standardized assessment instrument is recommended instead. (MSE)

Faculty members can facilitate student learning by acting as a committee to evaluate formally the available textbooks and development guidelines for their use. Committee members must review the course objectives and the role that textbooks are to play in the course. (MLW)

Faculty opinions of an evaluation program for medical school clinical tutors were obtained through a survey of 24 undergraduate clinical tutors. Although students had been using the evaluation instrument to rate teachers for five years, faculty expressed many reservations about its reliability and validity. (SLD)
