Campbell, Donald S. – Canadian Journal of Special Education, 1989
Sixteen hearing-impaired adolescents received instruction in the graphics mode of the LOGO computing language. Eight of the students also received strategy training to enhance reflective problem solving and subsequently demonstrated fewer programing errors and improved problem-solving ability with LOGO, compared to controls. Highly impulsive…

Strang, Harold R. – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1988
Describes a series of microcomputer-based laboratory exercises that are designed to assist undergraduate students in acquiring basic psychological concepts in memory retention. Mnemonics used in the exercises are explained, and computer-generated tabular and graphic displays designed for use in classroom demonstrations are described. (Author/LRW)

Powers, David A. – Computers in the Schools, 1986
This discussion of the use of microcomputers by mentally handicapped learners focuses on software availability and selection. Criteria for evaluating software are given, including considerations of visual display, reading level, program design, drill and practice opportunities, positive reinforcement, format variety, graphics, instructional…

Forman, George – Journal of Research in Childhood Education, 1986
Children, aged three to seven years, were observed in spontaneous and structured situations using computer graphics and robots. It was found that computer graphics can enhance reflectivity and that robots present a rich problem-solving environment for pairs of children as they try to coordinate commands to one robot. Differential Characteristics and Methods of Operation Underlying CAI/CMI Drill and Practice Systems.

Hativa, Nira – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1988
Describes computer systems that combine drill and practice instruction with computer-managed instruction (CMI) and identifies system characteristics in four categories: (1) hardware, (2) software, (3) management systems, and (4) methods of daily operation. Topics discussed include microcomputer networks, graphics, feedback, degree of learner…

Knupfer, Nancy Nelson; McIsaac, Marina Stock – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1992
Discussion of the use of desktop publishing software to produce instructional materials highlights a study that used a wrap-around text format with variations in the amount of white space surrounding the graphic to investigate the effect of white space variations on the reading speed and comprehension of undergraduate students. (28 references)…
