Cicchelli, Jerry J.; Richards, Edgar L. – Spectrum, 1983
An intensive study of nine elementary classrooms over a three-month period was conducted to analyze the extent to which teaching and learning behaviors change when computers are used for instruction. Findings are reported for both directive (computer-assisted instruction) and interactive (programing) learning experiences. (TE)

Blurton, Craig; Chee, Yam San; Long, Phillip D.; Resmer, Mark; Runde, Craig – 1999
Mobile computing and assured access are becoming popular terms to describe a growing number of university programs which take advantage of ubiquitous network access points and the portability of notebook computers to ensure all students have access to digital tools and resources. However, the implementation of such programs varies widely from…

Newcomb, Jack, Ed. – College Store Journal, 1982
Information on the computer industry and computer use by students, faculty, and the publishing industry that may be useful in planning college store merchandising is compiled from a variety of sources. (MSE)
Descriptors: College Faculty, College Instruction, College Stores, College Students
Bracey, Gerald W. – ELECTRONIC Learning, 1982
Reviews results of studies concerned with the effects of computer-assisted instruction on secondary students in the areas of academic achievement, motivation, and social development. Discusses a report on such findings which employs the research technique of meta analysis to translate measured research findings into standard units of effect. (JJD)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Classroom Research, Computer Assisted Instruction, Microcomputers
Smithy-Willis, Deborah; And Others – Educational Computer, 1982
Describes a study in which preschool children, enrolled in a Head Start Program in Texas, tested computer-assisted instruction facilitating visual discrimination. The study, in which a TRS-80 Model III displayed alphabetical characters, showed that four-year-olds are able to learn simple visual discrimination tasks from a computer. (JJD)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Disadvantaged Youth, Discrimination Learning, Educational Research
Compaine, Benjamin – National Forum: Phi Kappa Phi Journal, 1983
The factors that may determine the rate at which the technological and economic components of communications-based content distribution may come together with the cultural changes necessary for its widespread use are addressed. (MLW)
Descriptors: Computers, Futures (of Society), Higher Education, Information Dissemination
Hines, Sandra N. – Educational Computer, 1983
Describes a study conducted with six pupils using Apple II Plus microcomputers and LOGO to determine whether five year olds can perform simple computer programing. This report describes the introductory educational games and activities, the pre- and posttests, some general findings, and possible implications for the teaching of problem-solving…

Crane, Roger; Poole, Wallace – Educational Computer Magazine, 1982
Describes Project Retrieve, an information retrieval system designed especially for the Commodore PET Microcomputer, which is in use at the library of Brock University in Ontario. Over 200 instructional items housed at the library are identified by subject area on the computerized system. (JJD)
Descriptors: College Libraries, Computer Oriented Programs, Foreign Countries, Higher Education
Peer reviewedJournal of Chemical Education, 1983
Highlights four workshops held at the Seventh Biennial Conference on Chemical Education (Stillwater, Oklahoma 1982). Workshops focused on microcomputer tools for chemists, writing software for microcomputers, Project SERAPHIM instructional computer programming contest, and preparing three-dimensional photographs of models and structures. (JN)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Computer Programs, Higher Education
Peer reviewedThiel, David V. – Higher Education, 1982
An area of concentration entitled Electronics and Instrumentation introduces science students to microcomputer applications in all science disciplines. The success of the program is attributed in part to the interdisciplinary nature of the school as a whole. (MSE)
Descriptors: Computer Oriented Programs, Foreign Countries, Higher Education, Interdisciplinary Approach
Peer reviewedCrandall, A. Jared; Stoner, Ronald – Physics Teacher, 1982
Describes apparatus and method used to allow rapid and repeated measurement of acceleration of a ball rolling down an inclined plane. Acceleration measurements can be performed in an hour with the apparatus interfaced to a Commodore PET microcomputer. A copy of the BASIC program is available from the authors. (Author/JN)
Descriptors: Acceleration (Physics), College Science, Computer Oriented Programs, Higher Education
Peer reviewedRisley, John S. – Physics Teacher, 1983
Reviews software produced by Cross Educational Software to teach college-advanced high school students how to determine forces/torques acting on rigid bodies in static equilibrium. Designed for use with Apple II/II+ (Applesoft), 10 minutes to one hour are required for the five low to moderate interactive tutorial programs. (Author/JN)
