Reviews recent advances in microtechnology and describes the impact they will have on computer aided instruction and learning. It is suggested that distributed systems based on network technology will become widespread, and computer assisted guidance systems will be developed to assist new unskilled users. Computers in schools can be helpful, but only if properly utilized. Given time and training, teachers can use them to teach more effectively. Studies indicate computers are relatively inexpensive and very useful, but there are too few available, and not enough teachers have correctly incorporated them into their classrooms. (SM)
