Women of Color (WOC)[superscript 1] comprise 20.3% of the U.S. population, and it is estimated by 2060, WOC will be the majority of all women in the United States (Catalyst, 2021). As this demographic shift continues, little research has focused on how WOC experience their place of work. This study examined factors affecting the experience of psychological, physical, and economic safety. As part of the methodology, a survey instrument was created and validated psychological and economic safety as constructs. Survey data were collected to investigate how WOC who lead in California community colleges experienced their place of work. A "trenza" framework guided this study and distinct theoretical strands to explore how institutions are gendered and racialized; however, WOC come in with multiple identities interacting with systems of oppression. The analysis yielded WOC who were leading institutions experienced factors that affected psychological and economic safety between sometimes and about half of the time. A negative correlation between psychological and economic safety existed. Further, it was found there was no statistical significance between WOC in three groups: (a) management, (b) faculty, and (c) classified staff.
