Many preservice teacher candidates enter the classroom with limited understanding of their students' communities and neighborhoods. In this article, the authors share how they endeavored to support their candidates' understanding of community assets in one middle level teacher education (MLTE) course. The authors share the background for this project (including a bit of relevant literature), the general structure and expectations of the project, and a few lessons learned from completing the project.
