Wozniak, Abigail – Journal of Human Resources, 2010
Are highly educated workers better at locating in areas with high labor demand? To answer this question, I use three decades of U.S. Census data to estimate a McFadden-style model of residential location choice. I test for education differentials in the likelihood that young workers reside in states experiencing positive labor demand shocks at the…

Dustmann, Christian – Journal of Human Resources, 2008
This paper studies parental investment in education and intergenerational earnings mobility for father-son pairs with native- and foreign-born fathers. We illustrate within a simple model that for immigrants, investment in their children is related to their return migration probability. In our empirical analysis, we include a measure for return…

Borjas, George J. – Journal of Human Resources, 2006
This paper presents a theoretical and empirical study of how immigration influences the joint determination of the wage structure and internal migration behavior for native-born workers in local labor markets. Falaris, Evangelos M. – Journal of Human Resources, 1988
The author presents a two-period nested logit migration model and uses it to study the choices of young male workers with regard to location. Results indicate that locational choices in one period affect choices in subsequent periods. Little evidence of relationships between locational choice and wage equations was found. (Author/CH)

We find that September 11th did not significantly affect employment and hours of work of Arab and Muslim men, but was associated with a 9-11…

This study concludes that, on the one hand, age increases the psychic cost of moving and decreases the length of the accrual period for benefits, thus inhibiting geographic mobility. On the other hand, age increases the general skill level, thus stimulating geographic mobility. (Author/CT)

Journal of Human Resources, 2005
A study of the welfare programs in two counties bordering different states along with comparative welfare expenditure in interior counties tests the theory that Aid for Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) recipients migrate to counties which have a higher per capita welfare budget. Research shows that border counties with a $100 differential…
