Zhan, Peida; Liu, Yaohui; Yu, Zhaohui; Pan, Yanfang – Applied Measurement in Education, 2023
Many educational and psychological studies have shown that the development of students is generally step-by-step (i.e. ordinal development) to a specific level. Koziol, Natalie A. – Applied Measurement in Education, 2016
Testlets, or groups of related items, are commonly included in educational assessments due to their many logistical and conceptual advantages. Despite their advantages, testlets introduce complications into the theory and practice of educational measurement. Responses to items within a testlet tend to be correlated even after controlling for…

Hendrickson, Amy; Huff, Kristen; Luecht, Richard – Applied Measurement in Education, 2010
Evidence-centered assessment design (ECD) explicates a transparent evidentiary argument to warrant the inferences we make from student test performance. This article describes how the vehicles for gathering student evidence--task models and test specifications--are developed. Task models, which are the basis for item development, flow directly…

Ferrara, Steve; Johnson, Eugene; Chen, Wen-Hung – Applied Measurement in Education, 2005
Psychometricians continue to develop and evaluate methods for linking test scores, both horizontally and vertically. This article describes a social moderation process for articulating (i.e., linking) performance standards across grade levels for an operational state assessment program. The researchers used generated data to evaluate the likely…

Crone, Linda J.; And Others – Applied Measurement in Education, 1995
The feasibility of combining criterion-referenced and norm-referenced tests into a school achievement test score to be used for school effectiveness classification was studied with 361 elementary schools across 2 years and across a subsample of 264 schools. Results support combining scores of different tests to measure school effectiveness. (SLD)
