In reply to the above article by Golden and Carstensen, extends earlier research on faculty research productivity. Findings indicate that research performance is enhanced by department size (at a diminishing rate), private organization, grant support, a larger pool of graduate students, and a quality research library. In response to the above article by Meador et al., shows that graduate faculty ratings reflect total departmental publication performance rather than average research productivity. Hence, such ratings are a poor proxy for the dependent variable when modeling research output per faculty member. (MLF)
