Beck, Robert J.; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1973
Discusses research on man-environment relations and initiates the process of formulating a research paradigm for studying environmental moves and readjustments. Uses a renovated academic center as a specimen case. (JR)

Craik, Kenneth H.; McKechnie, George E. – Environment and Behavior, 1977
This article is the editor's introduction to this special issue concerning personality and the environment. Topics reviewed include: personality assessment, assessment of environmental dispositions, the domain of environmental acts, personal disposition, interactionism, and the development of the concept of personality in ecological terms. Beck, Robert J.; Wood, Denis – Environment and Behavior, 1976
This study formulates an empirically derived model of the cognitive transformation of information from urban geographic fields to map representation. It appears that four variables (subject, touring, environmental, map) all contribute to levels of map performance. (BT)

Baird, John C.; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1972
Two experiments are presented on the planning of ideal towns by undergraduates. The basic approach involved a modified map-sketching technique in which subjects placed sixteen town elements into two-dimensional physical environments. Results were analyzed by information theory, cluster analysis, and multidimensional scaling. (BL)

Hudson, Ray – Environment and Behavior, 1974
A necessary condition for studying cognitive images of environments is an appropriate method to define and measure these. Using a sample of students in Bristol, the Repertory Grid method was used to measure images of the retailing environment. The empirical results are discussed and possible future research is outlined. (BT)

Choi, Sang Chin; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1976
Three approaches toward a differentiation between crowding and density are examined. Two states of crowding, cognitive and cognitive-affective-physiological, are distinguished. Seven propositions on which the proposed conceptual model is based are formulated. In the model, the factors affecting crowding and the modes of adaptation are discussed,…

Gilbert, C. Gorman; And Others – Environment and Behavior, 1972
Because overuse is causing ecological deterioration and user dissatisfaction, a travel behavior model is needed that predicts intensity of use as a function of user characteristics, entry rates by access points, physical characteristics of the area, alternative management policies, and intervening events. The Markov renewal theory is discussed as…

Eastman, Charles M.; Harper, Joel – Environment and Behavior, 1971
In order to understand the dynamic influences of the physical environment on seating behavior, a longitudinal study was made of seating choices in the reading area of a university library. Based on analysis, a predictive model was outlined that extrapolates observed behavior in a space to new environmental settings. (BL)
