Contends that tests were not used in counseling in the mid-20th century partially as a function of the prevailing view of what constituted science. Study uses confirmatory factor analysis to assess four models of the Hong Psychological Reactance Scale (HPRS) and attempts to provide psychometric information about the subscales.
