Beheshti, Jamshid; Tague, Jean M. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1984
Utilizing 11 years of University of Saskatchewan circulation transactions, it is shown that P. M. Morse's Markov model of book use fits approximately 99 percent of data for whole collection and for three subject areas; contrary to his assumptions, one of the model's parameters is time dependent. Thirteen references are included. (EJS)

Schwarz, Philip – 1982
A theoretical model proposed by Paul Kantor for determining shelf availability for library materials by checking a small sample of items drawn from the checklist against the stacks and circulation records is applied to a working environment, and the following considerations are examined: (1) time required to apply the model to a working library…

Houle, Rachel; Montmarquette, Claude – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1984
Provides a model for measuring the influence of book quantity and quality, personnel, organization, physical facilities, and user characteristics on loans by 700 Quebec primary and secondary school libraries in 1978-79. Links library output (loans) to inputs (personnel, books) in a production function framework. Includes policy recommendation for…

Schwarz, Philip – College and Research Libraries, 1983
Data gathered in application of Paul Kantor's demand-adjusted shelf availability model to medium-sized academic library indicate significant differences in shelf availability when data are analyzed by last circulation date, acquisition date, and imprint date, and when they are gathered during periods of low and high use. Ten references are cited.…

Coady, Reginald P. – Behavioral & Social Sciences Librarian, 1984
Tests assumption of Markovity in library circulation data using data obtained from Ohio State University Libraries (1975-78) and Rodda's "An Analysis System for Statistical Analysis of Markov Chains" as test instrument. Implications of Markov properties, constraints of data, and testing are discussed. Explanation of transition frequency…
