Liu, Yan; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2012
There is a lack of research on the effects of outliers on the decisions about the number of factors to retain in an exploratory factor analysis, especially for outliers arising from unintended and unknowingly included subpopulations. The purpose of the present research was to investigate how outliers from an unintended and unknowingly included…

van Schuur, Wijbrandt H.; Kiers, Henk A. L. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1994
The identification of two factors when one factor is expected is an artifact caused by using factor analysis on data that would be more appropriately analyzed with a unidimensional unfolding model. A numerical illustration is given, and ways to determine whether data conform to the unidimensional unfolding model are reviewed. (SLD)

McDonald, R. P. – Psychometrika, 1974
It is shown that common factors are not subject to indeterminancy to the extent that has been claimed (Guttman, 1955), because the measure of indeterminancy that has been adopted is ill-founded. (Author/RC)

Chen Shyuefee, Agnes; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
Confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analysis determined how accurately each of several hypothesized combinations of first-order and higher-order factors reflecting creativity in the social intelligence of 192 high school students described the covariation in selected submatrixes from the total correlation matrix originally analyzed. Results…

Thompson, Bruce; And Others – 1993
Love is among the most fundamental aspects of the experience of being human, but measures of perceptions of the experience of love have only recently been explored. One of the most popular measures was developed by C. Hendrick and S. Hendrick. Most previous studies of the measure have used exploratory factor analysis and orthogonal factor…

Gray, William M.
Piaget has hypothesized that concrete and formal operations can be described by specific logical models. The present study focused on assessing various aspects of four concrete operational groupings and two variations of two formal operational characteristics. Six hundred twenty-two 9-14 year old students participating in the Human Sciences…

Christoffersson, Anders – Psychometrika, 1975
An approach for multiple factor analysis of dichotomized variables is presented based on distribution of first and second order joint probabilities of binary scored items. The estimator is based on the generalized least squares principle. Standard errors and a test of the fit of the model is given. (Author/RC)

Lim, Tock Keng – Intelligence, 1994
Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test first- and second-order factor models on cognitive abilities and their invariance across samples of 234 male and 225 female secondary school students. Factor models suggest that males and females may use different problem-solving strategies for spatial analogies, matrices, and numerical problems. (SLD)
