Mitchell, Douglas E.; Spady, William G. – Educational Administration Quarterly, 1983
To clarify "power" and "authority," the authors review the concepts' history, examine contemporary concepts of social control, identify four authority modes (based on social relations and controls), derive four power resources from these modes, discuss persuasion and exchange as social control mechanisms, and demarcate…

Lahno, Bernd – Journal of Conflict Resolution, 1995
Contrary to assumptions of the supergame model, agents in exchange situations will normally not be perfectly informed about past behavior of their partners. Kalof, Linda – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1995
The social psychological determinants of adolescent sexual activity were examined using survey data from 288 teenagers and drawing on a power-dependency theory in a social exchange framework. The model was a good predictor of factors associated with the sexual activity of males but not females. Racial differences were also examined. (SLD)

McDonald, Gerald W. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1980
The multidimensionality of the power concept has been more systematically explicated, but research efforts continue to be primarily concerned with decision-making outcome. Perhaps the documented patterns of slightly husband-dominant, though increasingly shared or equalitarian, decision making reflect a change in normative expectations rather than…

Garrison, John; Pate, Larry – Journal of Psychology, 1977
Tests a scaling instrument that measures an individual's power in four communication situations. Shows that positive and negative personal power and reward power are three stable factors accounting for seven-tenths of the total variance. Supports the hypothesis that perceived interpersonal power varies across communication contexts. (RL)

Malen, Betty – 1985
Policymaking has been studied from a variety of conceptual perspectives. The political bargaining model, used in conjunction with the broader systems framework, constitutes a familiar approach to research regarding education policymaking at the state level. This paper focuses on the conceptual implications of a study which applied that approach to…
