Plomin, Robert – Child Development, 2013
Fourteen years ago, the first article on molecular genetics was published in this journal: "Child Development, Molecular Genetics, and What to Do With Genes Once They Are Found" (R. Plomin & M. Rutter, 1998). The goal of the article was to outline what developmentalists can do with genes once they are found. These new directions for developmental…

Plomin, Robert; Davis, Oliver S. P. – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2009
Background: Much of what we thought we knew about genetics needs to be modified in light of recent discoveries. What are the implications of these advances for identifying genes responsible for the high heritability of many behavioural disorders and dimensions in childhood? Methods: Although quantitative genetics such as twin studies will continue…

Plomin, Robert; Schalkwyk, Leonard C. – Developmental Science, 2007
Microarrays are revolutionizing genetics by making it possible to genotype hundreds of thousands of DNA markers and to assess the expression (RNA transcripts) of all of the genes in the genome. Microarrays are slides the size of a postage stamp that contain millions of DNA sequences to which single-stranded DNA or RNA can hybridize. This…

Plomin, Robert; And Others – Intelligence, 1995
For DNA markers in or near genes of neurological relevance, allelic frequencies were compared for groups of high- and low-IQ children (total sample of 86). This study adds 40 markers to the 60 already studied. Only one showed a significant association with IQ in original and replication samples. (SLD)

Plomin, Robert; Petrill, Stephen A. – Intelligence, 1997
Genetic research on intelligence has moved beyond the nature-nurture controversy to investigate developmental change and continuity, associations among cognitive abilities, and the developmental interface between nature and nurture. Advances in molecular genetics are leading to a new era of research. (Author/SLD)

Viding, Essi; Blair, R. James R.; Moffitt, Terrie E.; Plomin, Robert – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2005
Background: Individuals with early warning signs of life-long psychopathy, callous-unemotional traits (CU) and high levels of antisocial behaviour (AB) can be identified in childhood. We report here the first twin study of high levels of psychopathic tendencies in young children. Methods: At the end of the first school year, teachers provided…
