"Ta'nadiingo": Innovation, Community, and Perseverance at Diné College
Andrea Christelle
Tribal College Journal of American Indian Higher Education, v35 n4 2024
In the face of unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Diné College, America's first tribal college, emerged as a beacon of resilience and innovation. Diné College demonstrated resilience through the creation of new programs, investment in technology, commitment to student readiness, pursuit of economic development, and the establishment of a thriving research office. The college recognized that important parts of resilience are readiness and resources. With funding from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Diné College was able to purchase laptops, expand WiFi and hotspots, and offer online support services for its student body. Recognizing that students needed more than just technology to succeed, Diné College took proactive steps to enhance student readiness. During the pandemic, the leadership of Diné College steadily increased its focus on building a culture of research, which included seeking extramural funding to support the interests and visions of faculty, staff, and students on campus.
