The results indicated that significant main effects for family size and sex indicated that Ss with smaller families showed lower need for approval and that females showed higher n App. Ordinal position was not a significant source of variance, however; these three family structure variables were found to be interacting. Generally, results indicated that the information about the interviewer and the information requested of the interviewee were significantly related to the verbal behavior of Ss in an ongoing interview situation. Measurement of females motives to avoid success were evaluated with students taking part in the Horner's Thematic Apperception Tests. Results of the study show that this testing procedure measures a more complex set of attitudes, expectations and personality characteristics than implied by "motive to avoid success" theory. Female subjects were randomly assigned to an n Power arousal group or control group. Analysis of TAT protocols revealed that n Power was aroused in women as successfully as the procedures had been with men.
