This article is for teachers who wish to introduce their advanced language students to literature but have not yet found an appropriate text. Five major reasons for choosing Georg Buchner's 1837 drama Woyzeck are given: the drama's brevity, uncomplicated language, contemporary relevance and the timelessness of its themes. (LET)

A course is described which was designed to investigate the changing literary images and social roles of women from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present. The structure and content of the course is outlined for the following periods: 1795-1848, 1880-1910, and 1945-present. (SW)
