Shear, Benjamin R.; Nordstokke, David W.; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation, 2018
This computer simulation study evaluates the robustness of the nonparametric Levene test of equal variances (Nordstokke & Zumbo, 2010) when sampling from populations with unequal (and unknown) means. Testing for population mean differences when population variances are unknown and possibly unequal is often referred to as the Behrens-Fisher…

Nordstokke, David W.; Zumbo, Bruno D.; Cairns, Sharon L.; Saklofske, Donald H. – Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation, 2011
Many assessment and evaluation studies use statistical hypothesis tests, such as the independent samples t test or analysis of variance, to test the equality of two or more means for gender, age groups, cultures or language group comparisons. In addition, some, but far fewer, studies compare variability across these same groups or research…

Nordstokke, David W.; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Psicologica: International Journal of Methodology and Experimental Psychology, 2010
Tests of the equality of variances are sometimes used on their own to compare variability across groups of experimental or non-experimental conditions but they are most often used alongside other methods to support assumptions made about variances. A new nonparametric test of equality of variances is described and compared to current "gold…

Zimmerman, Donald W.; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
A computer simulation compared significance tests of correlation coefficients calculated from initial scores, from ranks assigned by the Spearman method, and from three kinds of modified ranks. Implications of findings for the idea that rank correlation is a nonparametric correlation method are discussed. (SLD)

Keselman, H. J.; Cribbie, Robert; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1997
Nonparametric and robust statistics (those using trimmed means and Winsorized variances) were compared for their ability to detect treatment effects in the two-sample case. The use of two specialized tests, designed to be sensitive to treatment effects when data distributions are skewed to the right, is not supported by the analyses. (SLD)

Zimmerman, Donald W.; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
A modified "F" test is derived that includes a correction for nonindependence of between-groups and within-groups sample values in analysis of variance (ANOVA) designs. Computer simulations based on normal and nonnormal distributions illustrate the usefulness of the approach, which was more powerful than conventional within-subjects…
