Descriptors: Book Catalogs, Catalogs, Computers, Library Automation

Carter, Ruth C. – Journal of Library Automation, 1978
The on-line union list currently being developed by the University of Pittsburgh and libraries of the Pittsburgh Regional Library Center is described, including information on present procedures, future plans, and format for local data records agreed upon with OCLC. (Author/KP)

Landgraf, Alan L.; Kilgour, Frederick G. – Journal of Library Automation, 1973
This investigation shows that search keys derived from personal author names possess a sufficient degree of distinctness to be employed in an efficient computerized interactive index to a file of MARC II catalog records having 167,745 personal author entries. (8 references) (Author)
Descriptors: Authors, Catalogs, Information Retrieval, Man Machine Systems

Stevens, Norman D. – Journal of Library Automation, 1980
Suggests that catalogs of the future, as facilitated by computer technology, should take on multiple formats. Three levels of varying form and size are envisioned for the needs and uses of the librarian, the general user, and the individual user. (Author/RAA)
Descriptors: Computer Programs, Computer Science, Design Requirements, Library Automation

Uluakar, Tamer; And Others – Journal of Library Automation, 1981
Describes an online design featuring circulation control, catalog access, and serial holdings that uses an incremental approach to system development. Utilizing a dedicated computer, this second of three releases pays particular attention to present and predicted computing capabilities as well as trends in library automation. (Author/RAA)
Descriptors: Computer Science, Design Requirements, Library Automation, Library Catalogs

Fasana, Paul J. – Journal of Library Automation, 1980
Reviews factors influencing the librarian's decision process and contrasts them with visions of an ideal bibliographic system, the online catalog, and the all-purpose library network. Significant factors considered are AACR2, LC's decision to close its catalog, and the emerging national library network. (Author/RAA)
