Discusses the prevalence of lessons comprised of commercial materials in the elementary classroom. Explores the nature of this work, considering in particular the skills isolation aspect of reading seatwork. Argues that it is this busywork that makes students bored with learning and hence inhibits their future learning. Suggests alternatives. (JS)
