Paul, Coleman – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1970
Descriptors: Discrimination Learning, Paired Associate Learning, Verbal Learning, Word Lists
SAMUELS, S. JAY – 1967
TO DETERMINE WHAT EFFECT INTRALIST SIMILARITY AND STIMULUS ISOLATION WOULD HAVE ON THE VON RESTORFF EFFECT, ISOLATED STIMULUS TERMS WERE PRESENTED IN RED AND NONISOLATED STIMULUS TERMS WERE PRESENTED IN BLACK. SUBJECTS WERE 60 FIRST GRADERS. THE PAIRED-ASSOCIATE ANTICIPATION PROCEDURE WAS USED. ACQUISITION TRIALS AND TRANSFER TESTS WERE GIVEN FOR…

Wilder, Larry; Norton, Richard W. – 1972
Sixty college subjects were administered low frequency verbal discrimination lists under the conditions of pronouncing versus button pressing as a method of choice. There were sixteen word pairs in each list, and the words were three- and four-letter low frequency words selected from the Thorndike-Lorge tables. Four random orders of the pairs were…

BLACK, HARVEY B. – 1967
BECAUSE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COLOR IN PICTORIAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS WAS INDETERMINATE, 5 EXPERIMENTS WERE DESIGNED TO INVESTIGATE EFFECTS OF COLOR CUE RELEVANCE (DEFINED AS A CORRELATION OVER TRIALS BETWEEN PRESENTATION OF A GIVEN STIMULUS CUE AND REINFORCEMENT OF A PARTICULAR RESPONSE) ON PAIRED-ASSOCIATE LEARNING. OTHER INDEPENDENT VARIABLES…

Zimmerman, Joel; And Others – American Journal of Psychology, 1972
Conclusions from five experiments were: that the frequency of implicit associational responses has minimal effect on verbal-discrimination and two-category classification learning; and that the intrapair associations which do develop in verbal-discrimination learning are not critically involved in the making of those discriminations. (Authors/CB)
Descriptors: Associative Learning, Data Analysis, Discrimination Learning, Paired Associate Learning

Mueller, John H.; Flanagan, John L. – American Journal of Psychology, 1972
Article describes an experiment showing through paired associate testing how different groups can have the same total learning time. (Author/MM)
Descriptors: Associative Learning, Discrimination Learning, Paired Associate Learning, Patterned Responses
Stevenson, Harold W.; And Others – Child Develop, 1970
Seventy-three subjects tested at grade 4 were retested at grade 7 on five tasks. In addition, 138 seventh graders were tested on these tasks for the first time. Using performance at grade 4 to predict performance on different tasks at grade 7 often was more satisfactory than using seventh-grade predictors. (Author/WY)

Descriptors: Conditioning, Discrimination Learning, Handicapped Children, Learning Theories
Allington, Richard L. – 1974
This study was designed to determine whether subjects who received one of three treatments of color cues in an instructional program differed significantly on three learning tasks. Subjects were randomly selected from the kindergarten populations of two Michigan public schools and were assigned to one of three treatment groups. Eight letter-like…

Ward, L. Charles; Maisto, Albert A. – American Journal of Psychology, 1973
The results of the present study indicated that learning under feedback type A (presentation of correct response) occurred more rapidly than under type B (presentation of the position of the correct response). (Author)
Descriptors: College Students, Discrimination Learning, Feedback, Paired Associate Learning

Wallace, William P. – American Journal of Psychology, 1972
Experiment was concerned with the validity of the assumptions involved in the proposal of some minor modifications in the frequency theory of verbal-discrimination learning. (Author/CB)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Discrimination Learning, Learning Theories, Paired Associate Learning
