Exploring the Perception of Middle School Parents Regarding Parental and Community Involvement
Michele DeLucia; Olcay Yavuz
Education Leadership Review of Doctoral Research, v12 p19-39 2024
This qualitative research explored how the perception of middle school parents regarding parental and community involvement in various District Reference Groups (DRG) classifications impacts parental involvement. Particularly, the findings from reflexive thematic analysis of the parent interview data were organized to help educational leaders and educators gain a deeper understanding of key issues related to parental involvement and perception. The results indicate the challenges and/or obstacles concerning parental involvement that middle school parents may have experienced across the various school settings. Moreover, the results show what specific resources and support school districts can provide to encourage parent involvement in different school profiles. Thus, the implications for practice recommended in this study may provide school districts with strategies to act preventively through a partnership promoting parent and community awareness of the importance of their involvement in education.
