Understanding the Experiences of Educational Partnerships from the Perspective of Corporate and Non-Corporate Organizations
Carter, Arin
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Aurora University
This qualitative historical case study explored the experiences of corporate and non-corporate organizations involved in educational partnerships. There is significant documentation that supports educational partnerships as they relate to the benefits for students. These beneficial experiences for the students are evident and seem to drive the continued effort to build and maintain these relationships. Although there is a multitude of research supporting educational partnerships from the perspective of the student, there is a gap in the research as it relates to the experience of these educational partnerships from the perspective of the corporate and non-corporate partners. The purpose of this study is to investigate the experiences of the organizations that engage in educational partnerships with schools, to understand the value of these educational partnerships to the corporate and non-corporate organizations, and to identify the elements which allow these partnerships to be sustained and, hopefully, be replicated in the future by more organizations choosing to partner with schools. Using the conceptual framework of the Capital Perspective, professional capital gains are reviewed through the experiences of the corporate and non-corporate participants involved in educational partnerships. Participants' human, social and decisional capital are discussed to determine if the educational partnership had an impact. The study participants reflect on the value that the educational partnerships added to their organization with regards to human and social capital. They discuss the qualities of successful and sustainable educational partnerships based off of their experiences. This study of the corporate and non-corporate study participants' experiences with educational partnerships encourages a review of current educational practices to allow members of the community to share the responsibility of educating their students.
