Results indicate that kindergarten and first-grade pupils who were trained in visual perception scored no higher than their controls on the academic or readiness tests. Therefore, the use of this program as a supplement to traditional readiness activities does not appear to be warranted. (Author)

This study describes and compares visual encoding processes and copying performance of normal children and children with perceptual and neurological disabilities viewing the Bender-Gestalt designs. Beery's Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration was individually administered to 193 school-age children. Four factors were obtained, indicating that the test does not measure a unitary dimension of perceptual-motor development, but rather four distinct levels or stages for the age range of children investigated. The performance of 132 pre- and primary school children on a Bender-Gestalt copying task was compared with that of a multiple choice version. Significant correlation coefficients were obtained between the copying and recognition scores.
