Jones, M. Gail; Tretter, Thomas; Paechter, Manuela; Kubasko, Dennis; Bokinsky, Alexandra; Andre, Thomas; Negishi, Atsuko – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2007
This study examined middle and high school students' perceptions of a weeklong science experience with nanotechnology and atomic force microscopy. Through an examination of student self assessments and their writing, the study allowed us to examine some of the issues that may contribute to discrepancies that are seen between European-American and…

Isaac, Blanche K. – Journal of School Psychology, 1973
No significant difference was found between the perceptual-motor performance of the white advantaged and disadvantaged children. The disadvantaged black children performed significantly more poorly than either of the white groups. Perceptual-motor proficiency was also examined in relation to sex, intelligence, visual discrimination, motivation,…

Gerstein, Alvin I.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
Rorschach protocols of both black and white children from 7 to 14 years of age, who had been evaluated at a child guidance clinic, were rescored with respect to developmental level of perceptual integration. It was found that black children had higher perceptual-integration scores in comparison to their white counterparts. (Author)

Rich, Cynthia Jo – Race Relations Reporter, 1973
Argues that black mothers in the U.S. are adversely affected by the white stereotype of the quiet passive baby, citing evidence that in Africa, black neonates show a rapid growth in motor development, while in Mexico, Mayan Indian babies, just minutes old, demonstrate a precocious development in sensory perception. Kleinfeld, J. S. – Review of Educational Research, 1973
This paper uses the eskimo as an illustration to argue that research based on a multi-ability model of intelligence such as the structure of intellect (Guilford, 1967) could identify cognitive strengths of culturally different groups and suggest occupational and educational areas where strengths could be used to advantage. (Author/SM)

Sattler, Jerome M.; Gwynne, John – Journal of School Psychology, 1982
Compared differences in the Bender-Gestalt mean error scores of 1,938 Black, Hispanic, and White children. Performed a two-way between groups' unweighted means ANOVA on the error scores for the seven age groups and for the three ethnic groups. Significant differences were found for both main effects. Fuller, Gerald B.; Friedrich, Douglas – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1979
Rural Black and White children of variant academic achievement were tested on the Minnesota Percepto-Diagnostic Test, which consists of six gestalt designs for the subject to copy. Analyses resulted only in a significant achievement effect; when intellectual level was statistically controlled, race was not a significant variable. (Editor/SJL)

Taylor, Ronald L.; And Others – Diagnostique, 1985
Construct validity of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised using 189 Black, 184 Hispanic, and 187 White 6- to 11-year-olds was investigated. Nye, Barbara A. – 1977
Data from a statewide screening of Tennessee Head Start children on the Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (VMI) are analyzed in this report for two purposes: to determine whether sex, race, and residence have a significant influence on visual motor development as measured by the VMI, and to develop VMI norms for the Tennessee Head…

Carlson, Jerry S. – 1983
This study assessed the usefulness of the dynamic testing approach to optimize testing procedures by reducing or eliminating bias, conceived of as error in measurement attributable to factors entering into performance which were not the target of the assessment. The study examined: (1) whether the dynamic assessment approach yields information…
