Annually in the United States, 1 to 5 million older adults, 65 and above, are physically or sexually injured or mistreated by their caregivers in family settings. Laditka, Sarah B.; Laditka, James N.; Houck, Margaret M.; Olatosi, Bankole A. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 2011
Attitudes toward older people can influence how they are treated and their cognitive and physical health. Why Do Older Men Report Low Stress Ratings? Findings from the Veterans Affairs Normative Aging Study
Boeninger, Daria K.; Shiraishi, Ray W.; Aldwin, Carolyn M.; Spiro, Avron, III – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 2009
We examined the interplay between three explanatory hypotheses for why older adults appear to rate their problems as less stressful than do younger adults: age-related differences in personality, in types of problems, and in the appraisal process--specifically, the number of primary stress appraisals. A sample of 1,054 men from the Normative Aging…

Hay, Elizabeth L.; Fingerman, Karen L.; Lefkowitz, Eva S. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 2008
This study examined the worries adults and their parents experience for one another. To date, relatively little research has considered the experience of worry in this relationship. A small number of studies, however, suggest worry is relatively common in this relationship (Boutain, 2001; Cicirelli, 1988; Parker, Call, Dunkle, & Vaitkus, 2002).…

Sorkin, Dara H.; Rook, Karen S.; Heckhausen, Jutta; Billimek, John – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 2009
People vary in the importance they ascribe to, and efforts they invest in, maintaining positive relationships with others. Slagsvold, Britt; Sorensen, Annemette – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 2008
High sense of control is related to benefits in many aspects of life, and education is known to be strongly related to sense of control.
