Data are reported suggesting that a change in practice patterns did occur subsequent to a continuing medical education program. Twenty-eight physicians took a course in pulmonary artery pressure monitoring and followup surveys indicate its objectives were met. (LBH)

A model medical care evaluation (MCE) program was implemented at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. The program was evaluated by quantitative and qualitative observational techniques, questionnaires, and interviews, and by comparing committees for which the implementation was highly successful with those less successful. The effectiveness of continuing medical education (CME) is reviewed in terms of physician competence, physician performance, and patient health status.
