The increase in Black suburbanization during the 1960s and 70s is examined in the context of racial changes in earlier decades. A sample of 1,114 suburbs are examined, and regional differences between the North and South are described. Racial change occurred with greater relative frequency than in previous decades. Data from a land-use study of small- and medium-sized towns in New Zealand are used to ascertain the relationship between official and effective density measures. This research study explores changes in the geographic dispersal of social classes in Philadelphia over a 20-year period. Discussed are the changes which occurred between the central city and its suburbs and those which occurred among suburban municipalities. Descriptions of several hypothetical models about the changes are tested. (EB)
