The Transition Process into Post-Secondary Life for Latinx Students
Saltos, Jennifer Alicia
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Alliant International University
Many studies have examined the issues of race and how race contributes to student's success or shortcomings. This study aims to explore how students transition into post-secondary life; whether joining the workforce or attending a college or university; specifically focusing on Latinx students when compared to their non-Latinx counterparts. The Latinx population is the fastest growing population in the country, however, the number of Latinx students that obtain degrees and work their way out of poverty is declining. This study will examine the obstacles Latinx students may face when transitioning into post-secondary life. Identifying and addressing potential gaps unique to Latinx students based on cultural and language barriers. The study will also strive to understand what is being done at the high school level to support students as they transition into post-secondary education, employment and independence. While asking education systems to create an infrastructure that allows the success of all students. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
