Results show very high correlations among scores on the Piagetian tasks and scores on the various biology tests. At least two formal operational tasks--the proportional and the combinatorial--can be used to predict academic performance in an introductory biology course. (RL)

An exploratory study involving the use of the Individualized Classroom Environment Questionnaire (ICEQ) in relating learning outcomes to student perceptions of classroom individualization and actual-preferred congruence is reported. Findings suggest actual-preferred interaction was important in predicting cognitive outcomes. (Author/RL)

The relationships between students' learning outcomes and their perceptions on a modified version of the My Class Inventory (MCI) were examined. MCI scales displayed satisfactory internal consistency and discriminant validity, and each MCI scale differentiated significantly between the perceptions of students in different classrooms. A hierarchical modeling approach is used in studying the predictive validity of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination, a key aid in selecting students for secondary education. Results from 51 schools indicated a modest predictive validity for the examination, with school and student characteristics influencing results. (SLD)
