Murphy, Kevin R. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1982
When either regression models or subjectively-weighted models are used as aids in making placement decisions, the discriminant validity of these models is questioned. The validity of several regression models and of subjectively weighted models was investigated in two experiments. (Author/JKS)

Alumbaugh, Richard V.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Three approaches to the prediction of juvenile recidivism--factor analysis, stepwise multiple regression, and stepwise discriminant analysis--are contrasted. Stepwise discriminant analysis provided the most consistent selection of variables in the data set used. Problems and advantages of the three approaches are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Wilson, Kenneth M. – 1971
To determine whether it is necessary for eight College Research Center (CRC) member colleges to use 16 distinct sets of weight in combining four admissions tests scores into predictive composities, a standard set of weights were developed and tested for effectiveness in predicting Freshman Average Grade (FAG). The basic sample in which weights…

Nordstrom, Brian H. – 1989
The relatively large number of students who perform poorly in freshman chemistry courses signals the need for the identification of criteria that will result in correct placement decisions for incoming college students. Research findings have generally reported placement criteria that correlate significantly with performance in college chemistry…
