Williams, John D.; Lindem, Alfred C. – 1974
Four computer programs using the general purpose multiple linear regression program have been developed. Setwise regression analysis is a stepwise procedure for sets of variables; there will be as many steps as there are sets. Covarmlt allows a solution to the analysis of covariance design with multiple covariates. A third program has three…

Borich, Gary D. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1972
Paper reviews the test for regression lines and provides equations for expanding this test to regression planes. (Author)

Borich, Gary D. – 1971
Methods exist for testing the homogeneity of group regression for the case in which there is only one predictor. Studies which have investigated aptitude-treatment interactions have adopted the homogeneity of regressions test as standard methodology for assessing the difference in regression slopes across treatments. Additional statistical…

Thayer, Jerome D. – 1986
A dichotomous dependent variable is used to determine a combination of variables that will predict group membership. Dichotomous variables are frequently encountered in multiple regression analysis. However, several textbooks question the appropriateness of using multiple regression analysis when analyzing dichotomous dependent variables. The…

Serlin, Ronald C.; Levin, Joel R. – 1980
A general procedure is presented for generating code values for a qualitative variable in multiple linear regression analyses that result in directly interpretable estimates of interest. The basic approach, in viewing ANOVA as a multiple regression problem, is to derive quantitative code values for the various levels of the qualitative ANOVA…

Igra, Amnon – Sociological Methods and Research, 1980
Three methods of estimating a model of school effects are compared: ordinary least squares; an approach based on the analysis of covariance; and, a residualized input-output approach. Results are presented using a matrix algebra formulation, and advantages of the first two methods are considered. (Author/GK)

House, Gary D. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1978
The three-year impact of a remedial arithmetic program on eligible St. Louis Public School pupils was investigated. Hypotheses were tested through multiple linear regression models for analyses of covariance. No treatment effects were found. The study reveals that changes in future program evaluation designs are needed. (Author/JKS)

Kleinke, David J. – 1971
Change Group Analysis is suggested as a technique for examining the correlates of the differential effects of a compensatory education program within the group of enrolled pupils. It is based on using pretest-posttest relative changes for forming criterion groups and then using multiple disciminant analysis to uncover patterns of predictor…

Milstein, Robert M.; And Others – Journal of Medical Education, 1980
The following hypothesis is tested and validated: that individual differences in interviewers' tendencies to rate generously or harshly, applicant characteristics, and the dissimilarity between applicant and interviewer characteristics contribute simultaneously to the prediction of interviewers' ratings of medical school applicants. (JMD)

Huff, Kimberley; And Others – 1989
This study examined the differences between actual and predicted school achievement on a grade 5 standardized reading posttest. The primary objective was to identify which schools are performing above expectation on a posttest by examining multiple regression residuals and, concurrently, which school level variables are associated with that…

Anderson, Barry D. – 1975
This paper reports a model of the impact of teacher behavior on student achievement. Estimates of the model's efficiency are obtained and its utility tested on a second set of data. Methodological and theoretical frameworks are from sociologists interested in contextual affects phenomena. Data were collected from 374 students during 1971-73. Using…

Lyons, Kevin J.; Young, Barbara E.; Haas, Patricia S.; Hojat, Mohammadreza; Bross, Theodore M. – 1997
This study, a collaborative undertaking between the college of health professions and the medical college at Thomas Jefferson University (Pennsylvania), was part of a larger project intended to examine whether a selected set of academic, demographic, and psychosocial variables are predictive of nursing and allied health student academic…
