Alika, Henrietta Ijeoma; Ohanaka, Blessing Ijeoma – Research in Education, 2013
This paper examined the role of counselling, and parental encouragement on re-entry of adolescents into secondary school in Abia State, Nigeria. Lott, Joe L., II; Gardner, Susan; Powers, Daniel A. – Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory & Practice, 2010
The STEM fields, otherwise known as the Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics areas, have become the focus of multiple studies and funding initiatives in recent years. Despite these efforts, lingering concerns exist about who enters, who is retained, and who completes the doctorate in STEM fields. This study utilizes discrete-time…

Lloyd, Dee Norman – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
A multiple regression was used to predict the grade in which secondary school dropouts would leave school. Predictors were twenty measures drawn from sixth grade records. It was concluded that a construct labelled "level of educational attainment" is the best determinant of both whether and when a student will drop out. (Author/JKS)

Capoor, Madan; Eagle, Norman – Community/Junior College Research Quarterly, 1977
This article demonstrates, through a case study, the use of pre-existing subgroups as moderator variables to increase the predictive effectiveness of educational research. Use of moderator variables in this study increased the amount of explained variance by 460 percent. (JDS)

Capoor, Madan; Eagle, Norman – 1976
Failure to identify and account for the effect of moderator variables is an important reason for the low explanatory power of much educational research. Pre-existing subgroups such as sex, ethnicity, and curriculum offer an easily identifiable and theoretically meaningful source of moderator variables. Tests for intercept and slope differences in…

Suh, Suhyun; Suh, Jingyo – Journal of Educational Research & Policy Studies, 2004
This article discusses factors related to eventual high school credentials among dropouts. Using the National Educational Longitudinal Study of 1988 (NELS:88/00), the current study found that approximately two-thirds of the sample of high school dropouts eventually attained some form of high school credentials within eight years of their class…
