Between 1981 and 1985, advancement officers' salaries stayed slightly ahead of inflation but didn't increase as much as other white-collar workers' salaries. A 1985 CASE survey of institutional advancement professionals' salaries investigated factors that influence salary, and gender was found to be a significant influence. (MLW)

Mentoring relationships from the mentors' point of view were surveyed. Using O'Neill's theory of mentoring, a Likert scale instrument was developed. Results indicated that mentors feel mentoring is important to them as well as to their students. In a multivariate multiple regression, age was a significant predictor of mentoring score. Recruiters (N=24) interviewed 91 students to explore factors recruiters use to assess applicants' interviewing skills and suitability for hire. Examined the long-term effects of early parental divorce on sex role development in 219 college students. No significant differences were found between subjects from intact and divorced parents. Investigated changes in subjective age in 323 older Mexican Americans and Anglo Americans. Results showed those whose subjective age increased from young or middle-aged to old were generally less educated, older, and in poorer health. Examined the athletic expectations of high school male athletes (N=386). Results showed that 36 percent of the Black starters and 14 percent of the White starters expected to become professional athletes, although other data indicate only 2 percent will succeed. Assessed differences in cardiovascular reactivity between high and low life-stress students (N=26).
