Sellers, Alfred H.; And Others – 1990
The relationships between intellectual and demographic variables of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) were examined. Subjects were 2,200 children in the WISC-R standardization sample. Four multiple regression analyses were performed between Full Scale and Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Organization, and Freedom from…

Harnqvist, Kjell; Stahle, Gun – 1977
A written intelligence test with verbal, reasoning, and spatial subscales was administered to two comparable national samples of 1,000 thirteen-year olds in Sweden, tested in 1961 and in 1966. The increases were greater for girls than for boys, and the changes occurred simultaneously with several changes in social and educational conditions. To…

Madhyastha, Tara M.; Tanimoto, Steven – International Working Group on Educational Data Mining, 2009
Most of the emphasis on mining online assessment logs has been to identify content-specific errors. However, the pattern of general "consistency" is domain independent, strongly related to performance, and can itself be a target of educational data mining. We demonstrate that simple consistency indicators are related to student outcomes,…

Eron, Leonard D.; Huesmann, L. Rowell – 1983
As indicated by multiple measures (including overt criminal behavior), stability of aggressive behavior was investigated across 22 years for males and females in a variety of situations. Originally, subjects included the entire population enrolled in the third grade in a semi-rural county in New York State. The sample included approximately 870…

Cohen, Sarale E.; Parmelee, Arthur H. – Child Development, 1983
The development of 100 preterm infants from various social class and ethnic backgrounds was followed from birth to 5 years. Results indicated that developmental outcome at age 5 could be predicted moderately well from a single measure (infant visual attention) administered as early as term date. (Author/RH)

Rusch, Frank R.; And Others – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1997
A random sample of 197 supported employees with mental retardation was examined in a longitudinal study. Results indicate that intelligence, time spent in the job, prior earnings, and federal job subsidy predicted future earnings. Job placement, job type, and means of transportation had little influence on earnings. (Author/CR)

Wiener, Judith; And Others – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1990
A study involving 90 learning-disabled (LD) children, ages 9-12, and 94 nonhandicapped children found that LD children were less likely to be popular and more likely to be rejected and neglected. Achievement and Intelligence Quotient were not meaningful predictors of peer status in LD children. (Author/JDD)

Burt, Diana B.; And Others – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1995
Changes in functioning related to aging were examined over a 3- to 4-year period in 34 adults (ages 22-56) with Down syndrome. Changes related to aging were minimal; neither effects of age at entry nor change over time were significant. IQ at entry significantly affected performance on neuropsychological and behavioral measures. (Author/SW)

Hong, Eunsook; And Others – Roeper Review, 1995
The predictive validity of original thinking, as measured by two subtests of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, to the performance of real-world creative activities (in such domains as art, drama, sport, music, and dance) was examined in 60 second-graders. Original thinking was significantly related to creative performance but not to…

Diaz, Amelia; And Others – Personality and Individual Differences, 1994
Three personality questionnaires were completed by 122 delinquent and 421 nondelinquent adolescents in Valencia, Spain. Delinquents scored higher than nondelinquents on factors of dogmatism, neuroticism, and criminal propensity and lower than nondelinquents on intelligence. Neuroticism was the best predictor of delinquency for females. (BC)

Matthews, Gerald; Emo, Amanda K.; Funke, Gregory; Zeidner, Moshe; Roberts, Richard D.; Costa, Paul T.; Schulze, Ralf – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, 2006
Emotional intelligence (EI) may predict stress responses and coping strategies in a variety of applied settings. This study compares EI and the personality factors of the Five Factor Model (FFM) as predictors of task-induced stress responses. Participants (N = 200) were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 task conditions, 3 of which were designed to be…

Anderson, Deborah K.; Lord, Catherine; Risi, Susan; DiLavore, Pamela S.; Shulman, Cory; Thurm, Audrey; Welch, Kathleen; Pickles, Andrew – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2007
Verbal skills were assessed at approximately ages 2, 3, 5, and 9 years for 206 children with a clinical diagnosis of autism (n = 98), pervasive developmental disorders-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS; n = 58), or nonspectrum developmental disabilities (n = 50). Growth curve analyses were used to analyze verbal skills trajectories over time.…

Locus of control is a construct that reflects an individual's perception of control over his or her own destiny. The thesis is that people adopt either an internal or an external orientation. Internally oriented persons consider success the result of ability and effort. Externally oriented individuals attribute success to luck, fate, or powerful…

Goldstein, David; Dundon, William D. – 1986
This paper addresses the problem of heterogeneity of samples of learning disabled (LD) children by comparing five different systems for identifying homogeneous subgroups in terms of their ability to predict longitudinal reading and mathematics scores. One hundred and sixty LD children served as subjects. Three of the five subgrouping systems were…
