Belcastro, Frank P. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
A multiple regression analysis was performed on all Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS) and Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) scales to determine those scales which could be used to predict success in a secondary teacher preparation program for females and males. Significant discriminant function equations were obtained. (Author/BJG)

Zajonc, R. B. – Review of Educational Research, 1986
This article finds the empirical review of the intellectual effects of family factors by Lala Carr Steelman wanting because (1) it is selective and incomplete; (2) it ignores systematic aggregate effects; (3) it imposes linear analysis on nonmonotone relationships; and (4) it disregards most of the confounds identified by Steelman as crucial.…

Clifford, Margaret M.; Cleary, T. Anne – Child Development, 1972
Purpose of the study is to examine relationships between internality and achievement-related variables in a performance situation where students determine the difficulty level at which they desire to work. (Authors)

Weisfeld, Glenn E.; And Others – Adolescence, 1983
Used peer (N=200) evaluation to rank 50 high school boys on athletic ability, intelligence, and other possible determinants of dominance. Factor analysis suggested that peers of both sexes rated good athletes as socially successful and generally dominant. Intelligence showed consistently lower correlations. (JAC)

Miller, John W.; McKenna, Michael C. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Two groups of disabled readers, ages 8 and 11, were tested. Perceptual abilities related more strongly for younger students, while intelligence related more strongly for older students. Questions are raised about the validity of using expectancy formulae with younger disabled readers and the "learning disabilities" approach with older disabled…

Smith, Monte D. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1979
The investigation explored the possibility of predicting self-concept among 147 learning-disabled children (ages 7 to 13) on the bases of several combinations of predictor variables. The combinations of word knowledge performance, math performance, and family socioeconomic status (SES) significantly predicted self-concept. (Author/PHR)

Stanton, Warren R.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1990
Analyses of data obtained from 779 New Zealand children showed that family adversity and preschool-age intelligence quotient predicted problem behavior during the first year at school, but reading scores accounted for a larger proportion of the variance in later behavior problem scores than did school-age intelligence quotients. Mundy, Peter; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1990
Compared to age-matched and language-matched controls, 15 autistic children (mean age of 45 months) who were administered the Early Social-Communication Scales displayed deficits in gestural joint attention skills in 2 testing sessions 13 months apart. The measure of gestural nonverbal joint attention predicted language development in subjects.…

McCall, Robert B.; Carriger, Michael S. – Child Development, 1993
This review of literature on infant habituation and recognition memory performance as predictors of later IQ concludes that the level of prediction is (1) substantial; (2) higher for at-risk than nonrisk children; and (3) not higher than the level of predictions based on parental education and socioeconomic status. (MDM)

Pianta, Robert C.; Egeland, Byron – Intelligence, 1994
Deviations in children's mental test performance were studied for children of 169 disadvantaged mothers at 24, 48, and 96 months to determine whether aspects of the child rearing environment predicted the deviations from expected values. Relationships between aspects of the environment, child intelligence, and child characteristics are discussed.…

Piven, Joseph; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1991
Platelet serotonin (5HT) levels of 5 autistic subjects (ages 16-37) who had siblings with either autism or pervasive developmental disorder were significantly higher than levels of 23 autistic subjects without affected siblings. Autistic subjects without affected siblings had 5HT levels significantly higher than 10 normal controls. Sex, age, and…

Archwamety, Teara; Katsiyannis, Antonis – Remedial and Special Education, 2000
Comparison of the records of incarcerated juvenile males (N=505) receiving remediation in either reading or mathematics with those receiving no remediation found members of the remedial groups were twice as likely to be recidivists or parole violators as members of the nonremedial group. Predictors of remedial group membership included verbal IQ,…

McMahon,Susan D.; Rose, Dale S.; Parks, Michaela – Journal of Experimental Education, 2004
With increased interest in the theory of multiple intelligences (MI), there is a need to identify and evaluate instruments designed to assess them. This study was designed to evaluate the reliability of the Teele Inventory of Multiple Intelligences (TIMI) and the relationship between intellectual preferences and reading achievement. The TIMI was…

Vitacco, Michael J.; Neumann, Craig S.; Jackson, Rebecca L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2005
Although a 2-factor model has advanced research on the psychopathy construct, a 3-factor model was recently developed that emphasized pathological personality and eliminated antisocial behavior. However, dropping antisocial behavior from the psychopathy construct may not be advantageous. Using a large sample of psychiatric patients from the…
