Miller, Susan E.; Krantz, Murray – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
This study tested the extension of Schmidt's schema theory to the relationship between fine and gross motor skills. Fifty-two preschoolers were tested on 10 isomorphically related pairs of fine and gross motor tasks. When age was partialled out, results showed significant covariation among 6 of the 10 task pairs. Dubose, Rebecca F.; Folio, Rhonda – Peabody Journal of Education, 1977
Results of this investigation indicate that both male and female, nondelayed children receiving the Developmental Activities Program gained more significantly in motor skills than did children receiving the regular motor program; delayed children failed to demonstrate significant gains. (JD)

Troster, Heinrich; And Others – Early Child Development and Care, 1994
Reports on a longitudinal study of gross-motor development in 10 congenitally blind children during their first 3 years. Compared to developmental norms for sighted children, five full-term blind children showed slight delays in postural development but greater delays in locomotor development. Five preterm blind children showed major delays in all…

Longobardi, Ellen T.; Wolff, Peter – Child Development, 1973
An experiment demonstrating that children in Piaget's preoperational stage, who generally still cannot give conceptually correct answers to questions about rate and time, evidence an ability to imitate a given rate-time relationship demonstrated by the experimenter. (ST)

Mann, Marlis – 1972
This speech offers a guide to identifying and teaching high-risk children, those who exhibit a lag in development severe enough to be a handicap in learning. The high-risk children focused on are those whose developmental lag is frequently not recognized until they fail in school. The two major areas of neurodevelopmental learning disorders are in…

This study examined whether infants with Down syndrome (N=32) undergoing early motor training would benefit from their parents observing a clinician implement an intervention program with their child. Parents of half the children remained in the room while the clinician implemented motor stimulation techniques, while parents of the other half were…

Yawkey, Thomas Daniels – 1973
Coupled with justifications of nondescriptive and intuitive levels, research from Piaget's developmental theory is used to support play as a viable part of a day care curriculum. Within the context of Piaget's theory of play, three developmental stages or classifications of play are distinguished: (1) sensorimotor practice play (infants); (2)…

Guess, Doug; And Others – 1982
Three studies that applied quantitative procedures to measure motor and sensory/motor acquisition among handicapped and nonhandicapped infants and children are presented. In addition, a study concerning the replication of the quantitative procedures for assessing rolling behavior is described in a fourth article. The first study, by C. Janssen,…
